First Visit
What to expect at your first visit…
At Redlands Oral Surgery, our commitment to excellence is reflected in every aspect of your care. Our team includes highly skilled, board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons who work collaboratively to deliver the best possible outcomes for each patient. From your first visit to your final follow-up, we’re here to provide clarity, comfort, and confidence every step of the way.
Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. Occasionally, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.
Step 1: Consultation
Most patients come to us with a referral from their dentist or doctor, but we also welcome patients without a referral. Prior to your appointment, you’ll complete a registration form that includes your medical history, current health conditions, past surgeries, medications (both prescription and over-the-counter), and any drug allergies. This information is critical for your safety and for developing a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
You’ll also be asked to provide insurance details if applicable. Diagnostic imaging, such as X-rays or 3D CT scans, may be taken at this appointment to assist your surgeon in creating a precise, personalized plan.
Step 2: Diagnosis
During your visit, the oral surgeon will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, jaw, and surrounding tissues. This clinical evaluation—combined with any imaging—will help establish a clear and accurate diagnosis to guide your care.
Step 3: Discussing Treatment Options
Once the evaluation is complete, your surgeon will review their findings and walk you through your treatment options. This is your time to ask questions and gain a full understanding of the recommended procedures, pre-operative preparation, expected outcomes, and recovery timeline.
Sedation and anesthesia options will also be discussed, depending on the complexity of your treatment. For more advanced procedures, general anesthesia may be required, while simpler treatments may allow for conscious sedation or local anesthesia.
After the treatment plan is finalized, you’ll be asked to review and sign a consent form. Our treatment coordinator will then go over the estimated costs and insurance coverage, provide a detailed financial plan, and schedule your procedure. Pre-operative instructions will be given to help you prepare.
Step 4: Treatment
In some cases, treatment may be performed the same day as your consultation. However, if your medical history is complex or your procedure requires special preparation, surgery will be scheduled for a later date.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
- Your surgical referral slip and any x-rays if applicable.
- A list of medications you are presently taking.
- If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.
IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.
Our board-certified oral surgeons are committed to making your dental implant experience smooth, efficient, and as comfortable as possible from start to finish.
